LIFETIME is an international prospective observational study that follows children born to women with epilepsy to investigate how exposure to seizure-preventing drugs during pregnancy affects children's development.
The Norwegian part of the study collects health data, biological samples and questionnaires from mothers and children over several years. We analyze both genetic, epigenetic and clinical factors, with the goal of identifying early markers of neurodevelopmental challenges.
The knowledge from LIFETIME will contribute to safer treatment of women with epilepsy of childbearing age and provide better follow-up of their children.
The Norwegian arm of the project is led by Professor Marte-Helene Bjørk (UiB). The international arm by senior researcher Rebecca Bromley (University of Manchester, England). The project includes Norwegian partners from all health regions and is supported by, among others, the Trond Mohn Research Foundation and, IMI-ConcePTION .
